Kartause Ittingen provides a unique combination of monastic values such as culture, spirituality, education, welfare, hospitality and self-sufficiency. 68 stylishly contemporary hotel rooms offer the perfect place for a lengthier stay at this former monastery complex. In the gardens you will find historical remains alongside modern features. In early summer, thousands of rose bushes with more than 250 varieties - most of them historical - transform the park into a canvas of romantic floral magic. Meanwhile the Thyme Labyrinth provides the opportunity for self-discovery, and guests increasingly seek out Ittinger Forest for recovery and relaxation.

Our garden

Monastic idyll and garden culture
The Charterhouse Ittingen is one of the most important cultural monuments of the Lake Constance region. Over time, an impressive garden has developed, in which vineyards, hop, fruit and vegetable gardens combine with the floral splendour of flower gardens to form a unique whole. In early summer, over a thousand rose bushes of more than 250 mostly historical rose varieties transform the complex into a romantic flowering magic.

Medicinal plants, Kitchen garden and Tea herbs
The thyme bed and the thyme labyrinth are places of self-discovery and contemplation. The Ittingen Forest is also an oasis for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation.
Medicinal and poisonous plants were of central importance in the tradition of medieval monastery medicine. The design of the medicinal herb garden in front of the monks den is inspired by records from the Middle Ages.
The kitchen garden conveys the variety of culinary herbs and perennial old vegetables, as they were well cultivated by the monks in Ittingen and used daily in the kitchen. In addition to these two gardens, the tea herb beds are also cared for with the help of supervised staff. In addition to an impressive abundance of different mint varieties, other types of tea and herbs thrive here. Over 130 herbs are grown in the nursery and offered for sale in the monastery shop.
